THE WASH HOUSEA Cozy Log Cabin in Sharpsburg, MDWe got the Wash House when it's owner wanted this outbuilding torn down. We moved it log by log to its present location, and rebuilt it using the original materials. In addition to the main room, there is a loft bedroom (queen-sized bed), which is reached by the original steep corner stairway, and a kitchen and bathroom (with a claw-foot bathtub) in a shed extension. We also added heat, AC, and WiFi, which were lacking in the 19th century.The area is full of Civil War history. Antietam Battlefield National Historic Park is within canon range. South Mountain and Harpers Ferry are a short drive away; Gettysburg is a bit farther. Historic Hagerstown, other historic towns in Washington County, and historic Shepherdstown, West Virginia are also near by.Hiking (the Appalachian Trail and the C & O Canal), canoeing and tubing (Potomac River), fishing (Antietam Creek), a cave (Crystal Grottoes), and cycling (all over) are also close at hand. Or if you prefer shopping, there are antique shops and an outlet mall (Hagerstown).
